Police shoot 9-yr-old in the foot

… as they chase a speeding minibus
AKILA Niles, nine, of 97 Vriesland, West Bank Demerara, who was shot when police in a mobile patrol attempted to stop the minibus she was travelling in on Sunday, has been discharged from the hospital.
Commander of ‘D’ Division, Balram Persaud, said that two persons remain
in police custody and are likely to be charged shortly.
He added that about 2.5 kilogrammes of cannabis sativa (marijuana) was recovered from the minibus and is lodged with the police.
Acting on information received that drugs were in the vehicle, ranks in a mobile patrol chased after the speeding minibus loaded with passengers.
After several attempts to get the driver to pull over, they fired at the wheel of the bus.
The bullet struck the child in her foot and she was rushed to the West Demerara Regional Hospital where she was treated and sent away.
The driver is in police custody and charges will be laid shortly.
