What is the minimum wage for security guards?

THROUGH the medium of this letter column, it would be useful for a public pronouncement to be made concerning the minimum wage for security guards as provided by the Ministry of Labour. It cannot be disputed that the job opportunities are very limited in Region #2 which stretches from Pomeroon to Supenaam, but at the same time when employment is obtained, a just payment is necessary. Presently, there is a security firm from the city (name provided) which employs scores of security guards in this district with a meagre payment of just one hundred dollars ($100.00) per hour.
A  shift duration if for eight hours with only eight hundred dollars ($800.00) being earned for this period be it night or day.
The company does not make any kind of allowance for its workers who have to pay their own travelling to reach the work site thereby reducing their payment package.
Government’s intervention can pave the way to ensure that payment is made in accordance with the laws of this country.
This firm is showing no concern in the interest and welfare of workers with its main objective being to get the job done cheaply while making a lot of money from exploitation.
The firm is not even providing free uniforms which it makes and by compulsion employees have to purchase an outfit costing some three thousand dollars ($3,000.00).
Although better cannot be done to get jobs here, this kind of remuneration is extremely inadequate and needs to be increased in keeping with a fair day’s work for a fair day’s pay.
