Stagnant flood water causing health problems in Pomeroon

PNCR councillor reports…
PEOPLE’S National Congress Reform (PNCR) member of the Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) Regional Democratic Council (RDC), Mr. Rudolph Garraway has reported that stagnant flood water in the Hackney-Nunes and Aberdeen canals, lower Pomeroon River, is killing fishes and affecting the health of residents.
He said many people are suffering rashes on their skin while the recent heavy and consistent rainfall caused farms to be flooded for several days, with crops, such as cassava, pumpkin, watermelon, suckers, citrus and fruits to perish.
Garraway, noted that the stagnated water is also an ideal breeding ground for mosquitoes and called for the Aberdeen-Hackney canal to be desilted and assistance to be given to the farmers who lost their crops.
