SIX Berbice based organisations became beneficiaries of Metro Office and Computer Supplies benevolence, following their receipt of printers, scanners, multi-media projectors, display screens and batteries, valued at a total of US$23,000. The handing over, to the New Amsterdam Secondary, Nurney and Phillippi nursery schools, Amerindian Students Hostel, Bush Lot Mandir, St. Francis Community Developers, all located on the Corentyne Coast, was at the annexe of the last beneficiary, on J.C .Chandisingh Avenue in Rose Hall Town.
Giving the background to the gesture, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Metro (Guyana), Mr. Tajnauth Jadunauth, said it had its genesis 10 years ago, initially, targeting the various levels of learning institutions.
He said, however, in 2007, the donor included various non-governmental and religious organisations so as to allow greater access to information technology (IT).
Jadunauth said, in addition to gifting 22 computers, two technicians are being paid, on a monthly basis, to monitor and service the systems at the schools.
He said his company has made the largest single donation towards IT in Region Six (East Berbice/Corentyne).
Corentyne born Company President, Mr. Ron Ramnarayan, who returned from his headquarters in the United States to be present on the occasion, urged the recipients to maximise the use of the gifts while exercising great care with them.
At the mid-morning function and making brief remarks, as well, were Regional Education Officer, Ms. Shafiran Bhajan and Metro Branch Manager, Ms. Avia Lindie.
