BUSINESSMAN Clayton Hutson, of Lot 50 New Hope Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry yesterday, charged with simple larceny. He pleaded not guilty to the offence, particulars of which said, between December 11 and 12, he stole two motor clamps, valued $80,000, property of the Guyana Police Force (GPF).
Defence Counsel Vic Puran said Hutson even asked the Police to pay for the things, although he had no knowledge of the crime but they insisted on instituting the charge.
The lawyer declared that the Police have no statement from anyone, stating that Hutson was seen removing the clamps.
Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, had no objection to bail and surety for the defendant was set at $50,000, until January 10.
In 2008, Hutson along with two other persons – Joseph Abound and Frankie Ross – were wanted by the Police for questioning with regard to the cache of high powered guns, a large quantity of ammunition and other articles found in a barrel under a house at Lot 120 Regent Road, Bourda.
