Jailed, fined drugs convict must do community service

KRISHNA Singh was yesterday sentenced to three years imprisonment and fined a total of $36,000 for narcotics possession.
In addition, he must do six months community service, Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry ordered.
The prisoner pleaded guilty to having, on December 3, three grammes of cannabis (marijuana) and one gramme of cocaine.

He told the Court he was walking when he saw the package on the road and picked it up.
According to him, as soon as he took possession of the drugs, Police arrested him.
The magistrate then enquired from Singh if he wished to change his plea but he maintained his guilt.
For the cocaine, he was jailed for three years with a fine of $30,000. He was commanded to do the community service and pay $3,000 on the marijuana conviction.
