Islamic New Year begins

The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana (CIOG) wishes to inform the Guyanese public that the moon has been sighted, therefore, the Islamic New Year 1432 AH and the first day of Muharram (the first month of the Islamic calendar) commenced on Tuesday December 7, 2010.
Muharram is the first month of the Islamic Calendar which began with the migration of Prophet Muhammad (SAS) from Mecca to Medina where he established the Islamic state.
This month is considered one of the four sacred months in Islam and the fast of Ashura is recommended on the 9th and 10th of this month (15th and 16th December, 2010)
The Central Islamic Organisation of Guyana congratulates all Muslims on this occasion and pray that Allah will grant humanity the strength to carry out their resolutions which are pleasing to God Almighty and beneficial to His servants.
