Williams should do background checks in future

Mr. Winston Murray is dead and buried and I give my condolences to his wife and family may his soul rest in peace.
When you look at the work of this eminent statesman only positives can be seen and one can only say well done thou good and faithful servant. I also read the commendations made by the various politicians from all sections of the political divide but one such statement made by PNC member Mevyn Williams stands out above the rest and I wish to comment.
Williams’s statement “Winston Murray is the best president Guyana never had” was somewhat jocular in nature which in my estimation was an over ambitious statement from a politician who showed a total disregard for the facts. The fact is for Mr. Murray to have become the president of Guyana he would first have to be nominated by his party which in the present scenario had not a ghost of a chance. Not forgetting that he has already lost in a nomination bid against the mighty Corbin. His failure to address the sordid situation in his party is a chronic problem I have with soot sayers like Mervyn Williams.
Robert Corbin has shot down all would be aspirants in the PNC starting with Aubrey Norton, Vincent Alexander, Dr Richard Van West Charles (baby Jesus) and Winston Murray. They are all casualties in a so called “transparent system” set up by Corbin. The PNC’s pathetic situation lends credence to the Guyanese creole proverb which says “If you are not sh**ting then get off the po” Corbin is not doing either of the two and this makes the party a bunch of losers in the eyes of the public. How can they convince the voters out there that they are serious about governance? So Mr. Williams in the future please do some background checks before you make these outlandish statements.

My next point deals with the letter written by Mr Vishnu Bishram in the Stabroek news December 10, 2010 “M.T Lowe remembered differently by some” I write in support of Mr. Bishram’s letter which is the naked truth. I remember that stormy period whilst a student at Berbice High when some of us teachers and students alike, demonstrated in support of our sister schools on the Corentyne. Our protest did not last as long as the others because of the fear of reprisal. The editor of Stabroek News must face the facts that M.T Lowe was one of Burnham’s so called bull dogs and his memoirs does not make pleasant reading if we are to take this and other episodes into account.

The IMF report on Guyana’s performance for the year in review has come out in support of Guyana’s fiscal management policy. Our economy is sound and will continue to register positive growth in the coming years also. This is an indictment on the naysayers who continue to peddle their lies.
