THIS BEING my final contribution for 2010 and being a sports enthusiast, I take this opportunity to say publicly to all sports ambassadors of ‘The Golden Arrowhead’ that I have made every effort possible to attend as many local sports meetings possible for the past eleven months to lend my support. I am very proud to announce that many have lived up to expectations during competitions, and to those who made every effort to compete but weren’t pleased with the results, this is all part of the package and you have just got to regroup; dig deeper and maintain your focus as your respective careers develop.
I honestly can’t predict as to what level of competition many will have the opportunity to attend, but whether it’s regional, international or the Olympics, I will always maintain the maximum level of support to all Guyanese sports ambassadors showcasing their talent against the world.
If during my sojourn I’m able to pave the way for support in any shape or form to at least one sports ambassador, I gladly will.
I would however advise that you stay away from ingesting substances banned by the governing world sports body.
During the latter stage of 2009, I had penned an article saying that Ms. Nicolette Fernandes deserved to be named Sportswoman of the Year, which title she was eventually awarded. I had also made it public that Ms. Shondell Alfred deserved to be awarded for her outstanding contribution to boxing.
I will now take a different angle this round as an independent observer and sports enthusiast and make it public as to the two individual athletes who, in my book, should be awarded top honours of any sort for their sterling performances during National Athletics 2010.
