Police Commander unveils Christmas plan for ‘Cinderella County’

THE Commander, Superintendent Brian Joseph has announced that  activities within Police ‘G’ Division will be intensified to control crime and reduce criminal incidents and traffic accidents throughout the Christmas Season. He said, through January 15, 2011, the Division will be sub-divided into four, Charity to Queenstown, La Union to Supenaam, Wakenaam and Islands and Leguan and Islands.
Joseph said the intention is to promote and maintain, within the citizenry, a sense of security for their persons and properties at all material times and lessen crimes while sustaining prevention and detection, as far as practicable, making safer communities and ensuring safe roadways for all categories of users.
He said the primary areas of focus will be the Supenaam speedboat landing, Charity wharf, Adventure, Wakenaam and Leguan  ferry stellings, markets and mini-bus and hire car parks.
Joseph said attention will also be paid to the National Insurance Scheme (NIS) Anna Regina office, post offices across Essequibo Coast, at Leguan and Wakenaam, commercial banks and shopping centres throughout the ‘Cinderella County’.
He said markets at Anna Regina, Bush Lot, Charity, Suddie and Supenaam will be under surveillance by plain clothes ranks on the various shopping days and other areas will be monitored by policemen, similarly dressed but performing duties as spotters.
Joseph said the Quick Reaction Unit and the Traffic Department will have a high degree of visibility, using motorcycles, cars and pick-ups and foot patrols.
