I refer to the horrific accident which claimed twelve lives two weeks ago. Exactly how many more lives will it take? By that I mean, how many more precious lives do we have to lose? We all know we cannot afford another one, far less another few dozens!
What would move this government to implement the law and make it mandatory for all public transportation, i.e. minibuses, taxis and trucks (some being driven by irresponsible drivers who are murdering our people) to be equipped with what I’ve recently learnt is called a ‘Governor’. This is a device that is attached to the accelerator of a vehicle which prevents it from being driven at killer speed.

Once this is done, the police will have ample time to focus more attention on the private car drivers. Until then however, more mangled bodies with be strewn along our roadways and parapets.

So I ask the pressing question once more. How long will it take? And after how many more deaths? It seems as if it’s not until someone close and dear to some relevant authority perishes and becomes a statistic would something hastily be done.

Please! Please look into this matter immediately and pass the appropriate law in Parliament soon…better yet, now!
