ANOTHER cellular phone thief was jailed yesterday as the incidents of such thefts continue to increase.
Roger Samuels (no address given) was sentenced to 18 months imprisonment by Acting Chief Magistrate Priya Sewnarine-Beharry after he pleaded guilty to the charge of larceny from the person.
The prisoner admitted that, on November 3, he stole the $45,000 cell phone and $70,000 which Beverly Tudor had in a $2,000 handbag.
Police Sergeant Lionel Harvey, prosecuting, said the virtual complainant was a pedestrian when Samuels approached her on a pedal cycle and snatched the bag with its contents.
The Prosecutor said, when apprehended, the thief took the Police to where he had the phone and it was retrieved.
