THE fifth annual Rockstone Fish Festival was celebrated at the weekend as scores of persons from the regions across Guyana converged on the small fishing community in Region Ten (Upper Demerara/Upper Berbice). [The Mighty Pakuri performs with his son] The village, 18 miles west of Linden, was made popular after being featured in a 2003 National Geographic article headlined ‘Catfish Hunters’.
According to Minister of Tourism, Manniram Prashad, over the years the Rockstone fish festival has evolved into a major event.
Addressing the gathering at the occasion, Prashad expressed delight at being able to usher in yet another memorable event.
As promised, patrons were treated to an exciting weekend packed with events including fishing expeditions, guided river tours, fish catching, deboning and cooking contests, mountain bike racing and a photographic exhibition.
