One die, 13 injured in smash-up at New Hope

THE police are investigating a fatal accident that occurred at about 17:30hrs Sunday on the New Hope Public Road, East Bank Demerara.

Investigations revealed that the driver of mini-bus BLL 2836 overtook a line of vehicles travelling North along the roadway, and in doing so, was confronted by vehicles proceeding in the opposite direction. He attempted to go back into his lane of traffic, collided with a car and lost control of the vehicle which ended up in a trench.

Fourteen persons who were in the mini-bus received injuries. They were taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where thirteen of them were treated and sent away, while an unidentified man was pronounced dead on arrival.
The victim is of mixed ethnicity, about 35 to 40 years of age, fair complexioned, about 5’ 5” in height, thin built, with a Rastafarian hair style, and clad in a green tee-shirt and blue jeans.

The body is presently at the Lyken Funeral Parlour.
