3rd Mackeson Stout/Digicel Sweet 16 Conquerors and Riddim Squad advance to last 8

GEORGETOWN’S Fruta Conquerors and Riddim Squad have booked their place in the final eight of the third annual Buxton Stars Football Club organized Mackeson Stout/Digicel sponsored Sweet 16 football tournament, following victories over Mahaica Determinators and Ann’s Grove respectively. Playing in the first match at the Plaisance Community Centre ground last Sunday night, Fruta Conquerors who last week launched their fourth NAMILCO Football Festival, advanced courtesy of a Trevon Lycott 88th minute strike that knocked the sails out of their East Coast based opponents.
In the feature match, Riddim Squad found the back of the net in the 12th minute thanks to R. Ramsay then defended well to send Ann’s Grove another East Coast based team packing from the competition once again.
Both Fruta Conquerors and Riddim Squad will go on to face Golden Stars and Santos Football Club respectively in their quarterfinal matches that are slated for the Buxton Community Centre ground on Friday.
The action will continue tomorrow night with the final first round double header featuring reigning Kashif and Shangai champions BK International Western Tigers and Georgetown Football Club in the first match which kicks off at 18:00h.
The feature match of the night which will see both matches being contested at the Plaisance ground will pit the host club Buxton Stars against East Bank Demerara champions Grove Hi-Tech and this will get going from 20:00h. (Calvin Roberts)
