…get-away car also found abandonedPOLICE yesterday recovered a gun left behind by three armed and escaping criminals – who also abandoned their get-away car – following a daring robbery on an East Coast Demerara businessman, Mr. Parmeshwar Singh on Friday evening.
Singh has reportedly just finished offloading a container outside his Atlantic Gardens home when three gunmen attacked him, relieving him of a substantial amount of cash. The criminals made their escape in a white AT 212 Carina, PKK 2056.
Police officers, who were alerted and responded promptly, gave chase and the cornered the bandits at Crown Dam, Industry – also on the East Coast of Demerara. The gunmen abandoned the vehicle and escaped on foot, making use of an un-cleared trench.
When the Chronicle visited the area yesterday, residents complained about the condition of the trench and noted that, hopefully, this incident gives the relevant authorities a push to having it cleared.
Meanwhile, an eyewitness, who discovered the gun in her yard, told this newspaper that – as the drama unfolded in front of her house – the bandits ran through her yard and scaled her fence, from where they access the trench and made good their escape.
“It happen so fast last night…people just lock up quickly when they realized what happening…this morning we walk around and find the gun,” the eyewitness said.
According to the eyewitness, the police were quickly called and they took away the weapon.
The source added that the police maintained a presence in the area all Friday night, as well as during the day, yesterday.
“This helped people because a lot of us were more comfortable with the police here,” the eyewitness said.
Even though the gunmen escaped, residents were all praise for what was described as “very good response from the police”.
Up to press time, there was no word on any leads that the police may have on this case. Investigations are continuing.
