BCB/Poonai’s Pharmacy Under-13 Inter-zone

Lower Corentyne and New Amsterdam/Canje to clash for title
THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) continues to push ahead with its packed cricket tournaments scheduled for this year, with the hosting of the finals in the second annual BCB/ Poonai’s Pharmacy Under-13 Inter-zone tournament featuring Lower Corentyne and New Amsterdam/Canje at the Port Mourant Cricket ground this Sunday.

The finals promises to be a thriller with both teams having several promising and exciting talents with both bat and ball, but New Amsterdam/Canje would start as the favourites based on the ease of which they destroyed West Berbice to reach the finals while Lower Corentyne defeated Upper Corentyne.

New Amsterdam/Canje will be led by Berbice Under-15 opening batsman Shimron Hetmyer who scored an unbeaten ton and half century versus West Berbice in the first round and he would be supported in the batting department by Keirre Henry, Adrian Persaud, Rasheed Khan, Kassim Khan and Shazim Gaffar.

Hetmyer, Leon Andrews, Richard Henry, Jamal Butts and Nishane Noble would be the main bowlers for the visitors.

Lower Corentyne’s charge will  depend on Brandon Prashad, Jameson Anderson, Tyrone Pooranauth, skipper Daniel Lewis and Devendra Latchana to score heavily to put up a decent first innings score for their spin based bowling attack to defend.

Off spinners Daniel Lewis, Brandon Prashad and left arm spinner Joshua Harrichan should enjoy bowling on the spin friendly Area “H” pitch.

Managing Director of the Poonai’s Pharmacy Mr. Poonai Bhirooj and officials of the Berbice Cricket Board would meet the team before the match and share out prizes afterwards.

Teams: Lower Corentyne: Brandon Prashad, Narendra Permaul, Veramootoo Seawasane, Javid Seecharran, Balchan Basdeo, Devendra Latchman, Daniel Lewis, Jason Anderson, Tyrone Pooranauth, Matthew Latchana, Parmanand Sahadeo, Kevin Gopaul, Joshua Harrichan and Karran Singh.

New Amsterdam/Canje: Shimron Hetmyer, Keirre Henry, Adrian Persaud, Rasheed Khan, Shazim Gaffar, Devon Ali, Kevin Sinclair, Jason France, Clifton Lindie, Kassim Khan, Junior Jaundoo, Richard Henry, Jamal Butts and Nishane Noble.
