Hansraj Samaroo, 38, of Belmont, Mahaica, East Coast Demerara was yesterday arraigned before Magistrate Hemwant Ramdhani at the Mahaicony Magistrate’s Court for the murder of Deochand Sirkissoon, 39, of Unity Village, East Coast Demerara, on Saturday October 02, 2010, at Mahaica.
He was remanded and will return to court at Mahaicony on November 11, 2010. Sirkissoon bled to death after he was slashed in the throat with a broken Vodka bottle; the wound almost severed his head.
Sirkissoon had reportedly returned from the interior recently with a number of items to sell. He reportedly gave his attacker the items and was asking for his money shortly before he was killed. Reports are that when the man asked the suspect about his items during a drinking session, Sirkissoon’s attacker reportedly sprang up from where he was sitting and slapped him in the face.
This prompted a remark from Sirkissoon which further enraged the man who got up, broke a bottle and slashed at Sirkissoon’s throat.
The two men were friends and drinking buddies.
