THE corpse of Emile Enrico Greaves, the popular proprietor of Chemical Corner killed in a New York street accident last Saturday, is expected back from the United States (U.S.) on September 30, for burial on Monday, October 4.
His sister, Cheryl Greaves, who is currently managing the wholesale beverage business headquartered next to the Berbice Car Park, said the body will be at Sandy’s Funeral Home, Chapel Street, Lodge, where the initial viewing will begin at 13:30 h and continue for three hours.
The following day, there will be another viewing at Bethel Gospel Church, on Camp Street, starting 13:30 h, after which the Thanksgiving Service will begin at 15:00 h before the body is interred at Le Repentir Cemetery, also in Georgetown.
Greaves, who had left Guyana last Thursday and was scheduled to spend one week in the U.S., attended a party the following night, accompanied by his wife, Murlene and New York based siblings and friends.
Tragedy struck when, at around 04:00 h Saturday as they were crossing the thoroughfare at Linden Boulevard and Church Avenue, Brooklyn when the 45-year-old Greaves also called ‘Chemical Boss’ and ‘Boy Blue’ was hit by a truck driven by a drunken driver.
Relatives on the scene reported that Greaves, realising that his sister, Carol was in danger of being hit by the speeding vehicle, pushed her out of the way but was unable to save himself.
He was rushed to Brookdale University Hospital, in New York, but died there and the driver, who was arrested shortly after, flunked a breathalyser test and has been charged with driving while impaired, New York Police said.
