Guyana/Cuba health team holds eye care outreach in Region Two

THE Ministry of Health and the Guyana/Cuba health care team successfully conducted three outreach eye care screening clinics on the Essequibo Coast recently.

According to Assistant Administrator of the Guyana-Cuba Health Cooperation Programme, Mr. Nankishore Persaud the clinics were held at Charity, Anna Regina and Suddie.

According to the former Regional Executive Officer of Region Two, some 300 persons’ eyes were examined by the ophthalmologist at the three clinics free of cost. He said some 46 persons were diagnosed with cataract while another 106 are suffering from low vision.

According to the Assistant Administrator, patients will be taken to the ophthalmologist centre at Port Mourant free of cost to have surgeries done to their eyes. Mr. Persaud said transportation will be available from Parika to Port Mourant, Berbice and return free. Accommodation and meals will also be provided free of cost to all patients.

Mr. Persaud said the Region Two administration gave full cooperation in ensuring that the clinics were successful.
