The 41-year-old mother of two, brutally chopped by her husband who minutes later ingested a lethal potion of weedicide at their Mon Repos home, East Coast Demerara, on Wednesday, remains warded at the Georgetown Public Hospital, but is said to be in stable condition. Latchmin Mohabir, proprietrix of Green Ice Poultry Farm at Agriculture Road, Mon Repos, sustained several chops about her hands, chest and other parts of the body, after her husband, Subash Mohabir, apparently ‘tripped’ and violently attacked her with a cutlass in the presence of their 12 and 7-year-old daughters.
Conscious, but somewhat sedated yesterday, Latchmin said she was thankful to God that she did not die.
Both her arms and fists, bearing multiple cutlass wounds, are heavily banded, and she will be unable to use them for some time yet, health officials advised.
After being attacked Wednesday morning, the bleeding woman struggled and collapsed on a nearby empty lot, and was rescued by her elder brother, Seeraj Singh.
After chopping his wife, Mohabir ingested the weedicide and later died at the Georgetown Public Hospital.
