I have often referred to the adversarial nature of politics, which in reality is politics. Apply this truism to the local political scene, and it is the same. Then shift this further to the culture of parliamentary opposition politics as practiced in Guyana, adversarial of course, but extremely grudging, in which instance it is the classical politics of constant NOs even in cases where government policies are laudatory, deserving of praise and ought to be supported. But what a surprise it was, when I read a Guyana Times report of a Region Two AFC councillor showering praises on the Health Sector for its outstanding services in the named Region, describing same as “tremendous transformation,” “credit must be given where it is due” and “comparing the health services in the past with the new improvements”.
Unbelievable, but true, such encomiums coming from an opposition regional councillor! Certainly, a Daniel has come to judgement! It is encouraging to know that there are still a few forthright and honest persons on the opposite side of local politics, who can be fair-minded, fearless and objective in their pronunciations on national affairs.
The Health Sector must take a bow to this commendation, for indeed their performance has been witnessing a modern, dynamic, national health care system emerging.
Commendation of health sector by AFC councillor unbelievable
