Man allegedly kills himself after losing job

A woman is in police custody following the death early yesterday of Alvin Kissoon, 38, of 1928 Diamond New Housing Scheme, East Bank Demerara. Police said the incident occurred at about 01:30 hours when the labourer reportedly went home under the influence of alcohol and threatened to kill himself after losing his job.
Later, he was allegedly seen by his reputed wife inflicting injuries to his left foot with a knife. She said she attempted to take the knife from him when he pushed her away and stabbed himself in the chest.
Kissoon was pronounced dead on arrival at the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, East Bank Demerara, after he was rushed there in a taxi.
The reputed wife is in police custody assisting with the investigations.
Relatives living nearby are unsure of what transpired early yesterday, morning but disclosed that the couple had a domestic dispute.

They told the media they only learnt of the incident when he was taken to the hospital where he was pronounced dead, and are still waiting to speak to his reputed wife, who is pregnant.
Relatives believe that the stab wounds Kissoon’s body bore were not self-inflicted, and that he was murdered during a heated quarrel.
Some of them openly expressed their concerns noting that Kissoon and his reputed wife often quarreled over his child mother. Only the neighbours were at Kissoon’s residence yesterday. All his family members were at the Golden Grove Police station assisting with investigations.
