AS we embark on an exciting month for millions around the world I take this opportunity to wish one and all a happy and fruitful Ramadan. It seems that this being the ninth month of the lunar calendar reminds us of a mother waiting to deliver her baby and the anxiety and excitement of the news heralds joy and thankfulness. So too does this month bring may the joy of waking up to partake in the early breakfast, the self sacrifice of avoiding lunch and the thankfulness of sharing dinner together.
This is the time we go to lengths in ensuring the needy are part of our charity and forgiveness re-echoes in our prayers. Without forgiving those that hurt us or wronged us this month is incomplete and the nightly vigil of repentance cannot be savoured without remembering the wonderful gifts of love and happiness God’s grace has allowed. While it’s arduous to fast the thought of empathy for the billions of poor victims is surely an inspiration.
May the richness of this time bring joy, health, safety and forgiveness in the lives of all.
They say this is the time the devil is let go of freedom and mercy is released of captivity. Every soul has their story of liberation but how does one get release of the captivity of love?
Quran 2:185 Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur’an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.
