Canje Creek robbery accused refused bail

RAYMOND La Fleur (no address given), was refused bail yesterday when he appeared at New Amsterdam Court, before Magistrate Adela Nagamootoo, on armed robbery charges. It is alleged that the remanded prisoner, at Manabesie along Canje Creek, also in Berbice, accompanied by others, all armed guns, robbed Gibran Ali of $70,000.
He is also charged with robbing Maron Clarke of $260,000 on the same July 18.
Police Inspector Satrohan Dyaram, prosecuting, said the victims were travelling in a motor vessel along the river when the accused and his companions carried out the robberies.
The Prosecutor said La Fleur, who has to be back in Court on August 13, was fingered on a subsequent identification parade.
