THE HUB:
Train Beyond Academic Principles.
Sam Walton is one of the great corporate icons that I often speak about in my business lectures. He had not only the will but the tenacity to do what is necessary to train and motivates the human capital within his businesses. After graduating from the University he went to work for JC Penny for just $2 US Dollars per month. Within the first year of work he became pregnant with innovative corporate ideas which give birth to “Wal-Mart”, the world’s largest supermarket, the rest is history.
* Wal-Mart: Is The World Leading Supermarket
* Wal-Mart: In The Year 2000 Earned USD$189 Billion & 2007 216 B
* Wal-Mart: Has Over 4,700 Store outlets In The World
* Wal-Mart: Employs Over 1.9 Million Persons
It is amusing to see and know how far the will to succeed in business can take us. Under the leadership of this corporate icon, he has been able to push the income earning ability of Wal-Mart beyond the GDP of many countries. His vision and exceptional thinking abilities were at work in shaping a legacy for his business, but he was not alone in the drive of realizing impeccable success as a business leader. He had and still has ten’s and hundred’s of well trained human resources to fuel his passion. And he leaves no stone unturned in attracting the best human capital and providing them with rounded exposure to relevant training programmes to insure that his competitive edge is maintained.
I believe that where there is a will there is a way:
1) Is there a will on the part of innovative entrepreneurs / private sector leaders for the attainment of competitive advantage and exceptional growth within their industries?
2) Is their a will to promote sustainable development, through continuous training of the human capital?
3) Is their a genuine will by innovative entrepreneurs and corporate leaders to contribute to social growth and economic prosperity?
The will to realize these positive outcomes in the life of your businesses, in the lives of the human capital within industries and in the life of this nation, represents more that just your desire to see these things manifest themselves. The will in this context represents you knowing what and why you want to achieve these noble socio-economic ambitions and knowing the appropriate methods of approaches to attract them and make them your reality in this competitive world of business. The willingness to motivate your human capital, creates an environment that encourages staff loyalty and investment in the sustainable development of the human resource through comprehensive and continuous training which is at the forefront of knowing What, Why and How to realize your corporate aspirations. The need for relevant training programmes that enable people individually and collectively to tap into their hidden potentials, as employees within your industry, while realizing the strategic vision of the industry can’t be over emphasised.
The human capital is the single most important factor in the drive to advance industrial competitive advantage: promote social growth and foster and sustain economic prosperity. This critical resource, “The Human Capital” must be exposed to training beyond academic principles, beyond self centered and narrow minded views but training that allows them to connect with their passion, fine self and experience self fulfillment in alignment with your business strategic plan. The workforce exposure to the right training programmes or the absent there of, will determine the future of your business, how best people adjust socially and how the economy progresses as a nation. Let us invest in training of the greatest asset the world has ever known: advance the global competitiveness of the private sector and make our contribution in shaping a positive future for Guyana.
