Tapakuma bridge collapses with lumber-laden trailer

A TRACTOR drawn trailer, loaded with lumber, overturned, last Friday, while crossing the wooden bridge that links the community of Tapakuma on Essequibo Coast.
The mishap occurred after some timber planks on the overpass collapsed under the weight of the vehicle.

Some Tapakuma residents, who were on the scene, told the Guyana Chronicle that, after the collapse, the trailer with its heavy cargo toppled and dragged the tractor into the lake below.
The eyewitness said a man and his son, who were sitting on top of the lumber, narrowly escaped injuries.
The Regional Administration of Region Two (Pomeroon/Supenaam) has since sent an engineer and other workers of the Building and Construction Department to replace the damaged planks rehabilitate the structure.
