Defendants in attempted rape, fraud cases remanded

LEON Barlow, 45, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday on an attempted rape charge.
It is alleged, on July 2, he tried to have forced sexual intercourse with a 17 years old from Houston, East bank Demerara, at a guest house in Waterloo Street, Georgetown.

Police said the teenager had accompanied the accused to a room in the house after he told her he had recently returned form Barbados with clothing to sell.
Barlow, of Lot 20 Friendship, also on East Bank Demerara, pleaded not guilty and was remanded to prison until July 26.
Patrick Pompey, 50, was denied bail, as well, in the same Court.
The defendant, of Lot J21-965 Critchlow Street, Tucville, in the city, too, faced a fraudulent conversion charge but pleaded not guilty.
The allegation against him is that, last January 26, he took US$13,000 from Peter Slater to convert into local currency as he would usually do, because he worked at Swiss House Cambio.
Pompey will remain incarcerated through July 30.
