PYARG completes weekend bronze expedition on Essequibo Coast

THE President’s Youth Award-Republic of Guyana (PYARG) programme led an expedition to Mainstay/Whyaka, Tapakuma and Capoey two weekends ago.
PYARG Assistant Field Officer in Essequibo, Mr. Herlad Alves said 60 youths, drawn from units at Charity, Anna Regina, Kabakaburi, Wakapoa on the Essequibo coast and Leguan island, took part in the bronze venture.

Before they took off, from Anna Regina Car Park, on the afternoon of June 25th, Regional Chairman, Mr. Alli Baksh told them the trip should be used as a learning experience during which they would be able to interact and make new friends.
He said the PYARG  scheme is designed to make the young people better citizens.
Armed with bags containing clothes and water, they departed, on foot, around 16:30 h and reached Feather Beach at Redlock just after 18:10 h, when they were divided into six groups.
Each group was given a special name and was responsible for cooking their own food with supplies from the organisers.
They all slept under small tents at Feather Beach and, on Saturday last, continued onward, by road and through jungle, to Mainstay and Tapakuma Amerindian missions.
They also visited Capoey mission where they spent the night camping and indulging in a cultural show and games.
On Sunday morning, they began the trek back to Feather Beach from where they were transported to Anna Regina.
