Fifty-nine-year-old Bharose Jaisingh was killed yesterday when he was hit by a car on the Railway Embankment, East Coast Demerara. It is reported that Jaisingh, of 2 Industry Front, was heading east along the highway when he was hit by the motor vehicle heading in the opposite direction.
Jaisingh, who was employed as a security guard at the University of Guyana, died on the spot.
The victim’s wife, Mrs. Eva Jaisingh, said that her husband would normally ride his bicycle around the neighborhood every morning and he was heading home when the accident occurred.
According to eyewitness reports, the accident occurred around 8:45 yesterday morning in the vicinity of Industry village.
It is alleged that the driver of the car was on his cell phone when he hit Jaisingh, who was subsequently dragged a few yards before the driver of the car realized what had happened and stopped.
The eyewitness also stated that the driver, who refused to go to the police station, abandoned his car and left the scene in another car.
Mrs. Jaisingh, who works at the Balwant Singh Clinic, said that her husband, to whom she was married for 35 years, was a loving and supportive husband, father and grandfather.
