POLICE were yesterday investigating the circumstances surrounding the death of a man whose body was found lying alongside a mountain trail in the Siparuni Sub-Region of Region 8 (Potaro/Siparuni) early Wednesday morning. The discovery was made at the remote Amerindian village of Kaibarupai on the left bank of the Ireng River on the Guyana /Brazil border.
The dead man was identified as Aaron Joseph, 23, also of Kaibarupai.
A reliable source at Mahdia said information about the discovery was communicated by the Toshao of the village, via Radio, early Wednesday morning.
Reports suggested that his death may have been due to foul play.
A team from the Orinduik Police Station travelled up to the area to investigate on Wednesday but, up to late yesterday, additional information was not available due to the remote location of the village. (Clifford Stanley)
