Disabled murder accused alleges victim poked fun

A DISABLED man appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson yesterday on a murder charge.
Troy Young, of Lot 112 South Ruimveldt, Georgetown, is accused of unlawfully killing Godfrey Hoyte on June 20.

The remanded prisoner told the Court he was in company with friends also suffering disabilities when a group of other men, including Hoyte, poked fun at him.
Young claimed that Hoyte hit him, then broke a beer bottle and wounded him on one hand and a foot when he had no means of defence.
But someone handed him a knife and he stabbed the victim who, subsequently, died.
The preliminary inquiry (PI) into the charge is scheduled to start July 22.
