Berbice two vehicle smash-up…
THE two victims, Tony Tayloo called Rocky, of Lot 383 Number Two, Corentyne and Suracedyal Kalipersaud known as Imran, 29, of Lot 75 Sheet Anchor, Canje and Tortola, British Virgin Islands (BVI), who succumbed to injuries following a two vehicle smash-up on Number Two Public Road, last Saturday, died as a result of shock and haemorrhage due to multiple injuries.
That was the cause of death, determined by Dr. Nehaul Singh who performed the post mortem examinations on the bodies at New Amsterdam Hospital mortuary, also in Berbice, on Tuesday.
Kalipersaud, who was the sole breadwinner of his single parent home, was killed almost instantly when hire car HB 7214, in which he was travelling, catapulted several times and hit Tayloo, who was cycling along the roadway.
Kalipersaud, a mechanic employed at Alphonso Car Rental and Garage as well as Post Hell Clear Waters, in Long Bush, Tortola, was thrown out of the vehicle by the impact before the car rested in a roadside trench.
Meanwhile, Berbice Police Traffic Chief Ken Adonis told the Guyana Chronicle that the two drivers, one of whom was hospitalised but has since been discharged, are in custody and are likely to be charged.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police expressed sympathy to the bereaved relatives over the fatal accident which he described as shocking.
He declared that the drivers knew the consequences of their action, as eyewitnesses reported that they were both speeding.
“Drivers do, then think after,” Adonis remarked in his office at Berbice Divisional Headquarters, in New Amsterdam.
Statistics have revealed that seven persons lost their lives on the Berbice public roads for the year, so far, as compared with 13 for the corresponding period last year.
