The revelation of the clandestine meeting between PNCR/AFC with controversial Barbados-based political strategist Hartley Henry discredits these parties for denying their association in recent times.
The meeting at the Pegasus yesterday with PNCR Representative Winston Murray and AFC Raphael Trotman along with Henry is testimony to their deep and abiding relationship.
Raphael Trotman had distanced his party from the PNCR, to the extent he ruled out the possibility of a coalition between the PNCR and AFC. It therefore means that the PNCR/AFC have been deceiving Guyanese on the issue of their closely knitted collaboration and they should be chided for this dishonesty.
We may recall Corbin’s comment on this matter a few months ago which highlighted a trail of dishonesty by the AFC in particular. Corbin had said then,‘AFC leader Raphael Trotman has been  downplaying continuous engagements  between the two parties on mutual areas of concern, in pursuit of a narrow political agenda.’
He further stated that, “the AFC has been misleading the nation, and he blamed it for hampering the efforts of the joint opposition, warning that the party’s actions could help the PPP/C administration remain in office. The PNCR had previously ignored public statements from the AFC which were critical, in keeping with a policy of not criticising fellow opposition parties. He explained that the policy is informed by the view that there should be the widest possible cooperation among opposition parties to effectively confront the ‘dictatorial’ Bharrat Jagdeo administration.’’
It is obvious that these two parties are planning and plotting their strategies as anti-government forces to bolster their chances at the next general elections.
The PNCR and AFC are individually fragmented with uninspiring leadership but are dedicated to collaboration as we have constantly seen in Parliament and elsewhere.
This latest revelation will intensify Guyanese distrust for the PNCR/AFC who has been caught with their pants down.
These parties continue to feed their supporters a dose of fragile hope, based solely on a campaign built around a comprehensive and relentless attack on the ruling party.
