THE People’s National Congress Reform yesterday continued its customary walkout of the National Assembly.
During yesterday’s sitting, the PNC – true to their reputation – walked out of the National Assembly, this time and whenever, Minister of Health Dr. Leslie Ramsammy rises to speak.
Minister Ramsammy, was speaking in support of a Motion on the Special Select Committee report on the Persons with Disabilities Bill, which eventually had its third reading and passage.
The PNCR took a decision to maintain a selective Parliamentary participation and its members shun the Minister of Health and left their benches, only returning after the Minister would have taken his seat.
It is believed that the PNCR took this stance because of the allegations surrounding the Minister concerning the purchase of surveillance and spy equipment, which was found in a vehicle in which three men, including Shaheed ‘Roger’ Khan, were travelling in 2002 when stopped by members of the Joint Services.
Members of the ruling PPP/C, during their speech, said the PNCR is not participating in the important parliamentary work with its walkouts.
Minister Ramsammy said that during the debate on the Bill after its first reading, he spoke comprehensively on the legislation that he piloted and said that the Hansard can bear testimony to this.
PNCR member Dr. George Norton said that his party is supportive of the Motion. Messages of support for the Motion also came from ruling party MP, Reverend Kwame Gilbert and from the Alliance for Change’s (AFC) Member, Ms. Latchmin Punalall.
