A MOTOR mechanic has been charged with two frauds related to vehicle repairs.
Chandand Heeralall, 23, of Lot 23 Temple Street, Windsor Forest, West Coast Demerara, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson on the fraudulent conversion charges, to which he pleaded not guilty.
Particulars of the offences said:
* between April 1 and 30, being solely entrusted with a motor car to repair and return to Faizul Ali, he converted parts valued $273,000 to his own use and benefit, and
* between May 28 and June 4, being solely entrusted with $58,000 to purchase parts for Ali, he fraudulently converted the sum to his own use and benefit.
Defence Counsel Vic Puran, in his successful bail application, said the defendant is not a flight risk. Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, concurred and made no objection to the grant of $125,000.
The virtual complainant, who was in Court, said employees of Heeralall informed him that the defendant was taking parts off his vehicle to put on another.
Ali said his car was stripped of everything but the engine. The case will be called, again, on July 15.
