I would like to comment on the Pope’s condemnation of Homosexuality. It is indeed sad that his Holiness should use the holy scriptures to selectively to condemn a large part of the world’s population who live a life-style different from the rest of us, and who desire nothing else but to be left alone to the life either of their choice or of their natural inclination. The supporters of the Pope’s position should be reminded that the bible condemns a host of acts, still very much in vogue today, but which are ignored by the church and others who support the church’s position on homosexuality. Among these “sins” are not keeping the Sabbath, adultery, stealing, envy, greed etc. Incidentally, the Bible mentions caring for the poor over 250 times. Yet, we do not hear the Pope and others calling for the eternal damnation for the violators of these biblical precepts. William Hazlitt wrote that the only vice that cannot be forgiven is hypocrisy. The repentance of a hypocrite is itself hypocrisy. So, I will close with a quotation from Christ himself “Let him without sin cast the first stone.”
