– permission not granted for cremation
THE burial for Bridgette Gangadin, 30, of 3 ‘E’ Lusignan Public Road, East Coast Demerara, did not take place yesterday as was expected, as relatives were unable to get the certificate of approval for the cremation. However, Bridgette’s uncle, Heeralall Sookdeo, told the Guyana Chronicle that his niece would be buried today at 16:00 hrs at the Good Hope Cemetery, also on the East Coast Demerara.
He said when they went to the Ministry of Health, in the city for the certificate of approval, the police advised against the ministry giving the document, and told them that they can only inter the body as permission was not granted for cremation.
Mr. Sookdeo said that the body is at the Jerrick’s Funeral Parlour and they are hoping to meet with the parents of Bridgette’s husband, Dwarka Gangadin, who was charged for her murder and was remanded to prison until June 4.
The man said they are simply fed up of the waiting and the hassle they are going through and wish for their loved one to be buried at the earliest without trouble.
Bridgette Gangadin’s body was found on the roadway at Vigilance, also on the East Coast Demerara, on May 2, and the first autopsy, by Dr. Nehaul Singh, established that the mother of three succumbed to a fractured skull and injuries consistent with her head being crushed.
Police, in a previously issued press release, had said they were investigating her suspected murder and had arrested her husband.
However, there were conflicting reports about how the woman met her demise, including one that she jumped from the vehicle which her husband was driving during a quarrel between them, and that he panicked and drove away from the scene after realising that he had, accidentally, run over his wife.
A second post mortem by Trinidadian pathologist, Professor Hubert Daisley, at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary said the woman was strangled.
FINALLY! Bridgette Gangadin to be buried today
