St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in need of adequate water supply

Availability of water is now a major concern at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital following Monday morning’s fire.
Assistant Administrator, Mrs. Marjorie Park, is hoping that the relevant authorities could assist.
“The fire used up most of the reserves we had, and what is left is inadequate,” she said.

The hospital at 132 Parade Street, Kingston, one of the premiere health care delivery institutions, was ravaged by fire Monday morning and losses are estimated in the billions.
In an invited comment, Park added that even though the hospital’s patients are housed elsewhere, their needs are being met by St. Joseph Mercy Hospital.
Park said, “We take care of laundry but that at the moment is a bit challenging because of the water; also we look after the dietary needs of our patients.”
The Assistant Administration maintains that the welfare of the hospital’s patients remains a top priority.
“The clean-up in the in-patient ward is going wellur patients are anxious to come back, they miss us and we miss them,” she said.
Relative to other utility needs, Park pointed out that the Guyana Power and Light Company has restored power to the facility.
Park noted that the out-patient clinic set up at the Red Cross is going well and patrons of the hospital remain faithful to the facility.
“We remain grateful for all the support we have been given and the generosity of our supporters means a lot to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital,” Park said.
When asked, Human Resources Manager, Mrs. Georgiena Mentore, told the Chronicle, that the morale of the staffers is high.
In particular, she referred to yesterday’s observation of International Nurses’ Day and said that the hospital’s nursing staff celebrations will be delayed.
“We will have a celebration when we can. Our nurses are faring well and they are still in good spirits,” she said.
Mentore added that all the staffers at the St. Joseph Mercy Hospital have been accommodated.
