Didco feed mill re-opens

Promises high quality feed at competitive prices
Didco Trading Company Limited has re-opened its feed mill at its Friendship location on the East Bank of Demerara.
The facility was closed after being ravaged by fire on February 18, 2007.
Mr. Deo Singh, Managing Director of the company, told the media at a meeting last Monday at the location that the re-opening  was made possible through a loan of $400M from the Guyana Bank of Trade and Industry.
The company has recently received a  shipment of corn from the United States and feed was expected to be available in Georgetown from yesterday, and around the country by next week, all at competitive prices.
Mr. Singh assured the media that this would be feed of good quality since it would have the necessary ingredients needed to grow healthy chickens. He said the company would have a weekly analysis done on the feed in the United States, and this information would be available  to farmers and the Ministry of Agriculture.
Consumers are likely to have cheaper chickens in a matter of eight to ten weeks .
The company will also be producing feed for pigs and horses, as well as aqua feed, among others.
As for competitive prices, Didco promises that its prices would be no higher than those of its competitors, and would have the same quality as leading providers.

Mr. Singh also advised that hatcheries follow health regulations as required by law and have their chickens vaccinated to reduce losses.
Minister of Agriculture Mr. Robert Persaud is pleased that the mill is back in operation.
He sees the feed mill as a remedy for many issues affecting the poultry and livestock sector, as his ministry would often receive complaints from farmers about poor quality and high prices. The Ministry has also spent a tidy sum sending samples overseas for testing.
He sees the newly re-opened mill’s promises of high quality and its plans for having its product tested overseas as a real boon to the country’s expanding livestock sector.
