What a fiasco!

WHAT A sensational  and explosive story for all the salacious details revealed! The case of sexual allegations, and subsequent charges filed against the JFAP leader, Chandra Narine Sharma, has all the makings of  a Guyana trial of the century. Not since the late 70s arson allegations against some very senior WPA leaders has a high-profile political leader been brought to the court on such very serious charges.
The court appearance of the august person of the DPP, indeed signals the State’s serious interest in this matter. How long will it be before the actual trial begins?
Given the well known heavy case backlog in the nation’s judicial system, it is commendable that the DPP has signalled the State’s readiness to proceed against Sharma without delay, a fact that ought to be appreciated by his defence team. The latter was criticized for attempting to delay the start to the Preliminary Inquiry proceedings. And such criticism must be understood.

The psychological trauma of sexually-abused victims is well known. Studies have shown where such an experience haunts their lives daily, forcing many to resort to suicide, alcoholism, drugs etc.
It’s a living nightmare for them. I do believe that a speedy trial will begin the healing process for these young victims. I hope this is taken into consideration, especially by Sharma’s defence. They have a bounden duty to their client; but also much is owed in the interest of justice.
