Isn’t it wonderful that President Jagdeo won the UNEP award?

ISN’T it wonderful that the President of Guyana, His Excellency Bharrat Jagdeo won the United Nations’ highest award for environmental leadership? While a majority of readers may agree with me, it seems as if Kaieteur News and Stabroek News are not in agreement. Allow me to explain my reason for drawing that conclusion. Looking at the country’s excitement upon President Jagdeo’s return, one would have believed that this great achievement and the man behind it would have appeared in all the daily newspapers showcasing Guyanese nationalism. It is a sad heart that the opposite has occurred.
Perhaps out of personal grievance or just an expedition of anti-nationalist sentiments these two newspapers refused to acknowledge this achievement. Such scenario would leave one to believe that these two newspapers are hoping for the failure of the country’s Low Carbon Development Strategy (LCDS) and President Jagdeo’s dedication towards this important issue.
Stabroek News made no bones about supporting the Amerindian People’s Association when they were ridiculing the strategy and condemning Government’s consultations with the indigenous population.

Perhaps, their efforts are meant to ensure that the strategy remains ink on paper. On the other hand, their failed attempt to negatively impact on the strategy may be the reason for the entities’ bitterness.

I take this time to congratulate His Excellency for this tremendous achievement that has once again put Guyana on the map for great things. I completely support the country’s Low Carbon Development Strategy. My Amerindian brothers and sisters are surely pleased with Mr.Jagdeo’s generous contribution towards our communities.

The enemies of the LCDS will fail in their campaign.
