A MAN and his wife, who are involved in another domestic violence case, were yesterday bonded to keep the peace for two years.
In addition, after Paul Persaud, 29 and Rebecca Persaud, of Lot 37 Fort Street, Kingston, Georgetown, had signed the bond, he was ordered to pay $10,000 Court costs.
That happened following the dismissal of an unlawful assault charge against him when, at the insistence of Police Inspector Stephen Telford, prosecuting, the virtual complainant testified, under oath, that she did not want to offer any evidence against the defendant.
The husband had pleaded not guilty to the offence, before Acting Chief Magistrate Melissa Robertson, denying that, on April 13, he unlawfully assaulted his wife.
Earlier, Rebecca Persaud said the defendant slapped her because she opened a barrel that was sent to him from the United States (U.S.).
She said it was not the first time her husband had hit her.
The Prosecutor, referring to reports in the daily newspapers, reiterated that violence against women is on the increase and, too often, the Police are blamed for not taking action.
He said the Court must take note when the virtual complainants refuse to testify against their partners.
Telford said, on the day of the incident, for opening the barrel, the woman;s husband slapped her. (Nathalene DeFreitas)
