Trinidad-based pathologist Valery Alexandrov, who performed a second post mortem on the body of Sangeeta Persaud at the La Grange Cemetery on Saturday, could not give a conclusive report, but stated that the teen had no trauma.
He however took samples with him to Trinidad and the results are expected to be released to the local authorities shortly. The body of Sangeeta Persaud, called “Sheena”, was exhumed on Saturday morning at the La Grange Cemetery, West Bank Demerara, by the overseas pathologist.
The teenager’s remains were placed on the tomb and there the second post mortem was performed by the pathologist who was invited to Guyana.
The remains were re-buried in the same coffin and tomb was re-sealed.
Present at the post mortem were government pathologist Dr. Nehaul Singh, the pastor of Christ Ambassadors Church Ewart Cummings, who is accused of casting out evil spirits from Persaud the day she died, several members of the Guyana Police Force, Bishop Juan Edghill of the Ethnic Relations Commission (ERC), and Attorney-at-law Nigel Hughes, along with relatives of the dead girl.
At a press conference on Thursday last, Minister of Home Affairs Clement Rohee announced that the administration wanted to bring closure to the Sangeeta Persaud controversy and had decided to invite an overseas pathologist to perform a second post mortem on the body.
Rohee said that since the incident, much had been said about the manner in which the girl died, and it was decided that a second opinion as to the cause of her death was necessary to bring closure to the matter.
The results of the first post mortem were inconclusive.
The Minister added that he met with relatives of Persaud at Canal Number Two Polder and at Parfaite Harmonie, West Bank Demerara, on Wednesday night and they pledged their support regarding the exhumation of the body which is expected shortly.
