– 12-year-old cousin also claims to have been raped by C.N. Sharma
NEW twists have risen in the case where allegations of sexual abuse were levelled against popular television proprietor, Chandra Narine Sharma.
According to a reliable source from the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security, a 12-year-old girl, cousin to the 13-year-old who made the allegations, has come forward and said that she too was a victim at the hands of Sharma.
The 12-year-old reportedly told authorities that she was subjected to the abuse while visiting her cousin.
The police and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security are currently investigating this latest allegation and are also continuing investigations into the multiple charges of rape of four under-aged sisters.
The investigation commenced after reports were made by a 13-year-old, whose family’s housing accommodations were facilitated by Sharma. The residence, adjacent to Sharma’s place of business, is located on Robb and Wellington Streets.
The 13-year-old gave a harrowing account of her experience in a sworn affidavit dated April 12, 2010.
Also, confirmed reports reveal that the 13-year-old’s two older sisters, ages 21-years-old and 18-years-old, have recanted their earlier stories that denied allegations of sexual abuse.
The two young women told authorities that their earlier stories were based on the fact that threats were made by Sharma to have their mother, Premattie Danraj, arrested.
Additionally, the 21-year-old claims that at the age of 14 she gave birth to a child fathered by Sharma.
The relevant authorities have intervened and investigations are underway.
In an invited comment last evening from Mrs. Ann Greene, Director of the Child Care and Protection Agency, the two older girls are being assisted since they are “desperate” for help.
“They are adults but they need help so the Agency, through the Ministry (the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security) is assisting,” she said.
Greene added that the 13-year-old is also in the Agency’s care.
“She was staying with a relative, but after we decided that the environment was not right for her we placed her into one of our centres,” she said.
The Agency Director affirmed that on Monday a complete medical examination will be performed on the 13-year-old.
Meanwhile, the search is still on for the 13-year-old’s mother, Premattie Danraj, and anyone in the position to assist with information is asked to contact the police on telephone numbers 226-2917, 225-8196, 225-6411, 226-6978, 226-1326 or 911.
The two youngest sisters, ages five and nine-years-old, are said to be in Danraj’s custody.
Up to press time, Sharma was still a patient of the Caribbean Heart Institute at the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC), under police guard.
The television proprietor and Presidential candidate of the Justice for All Party collapsed at the Brickdam Police Station on Thursday last when he was taken there, from Eve Leary, for questioning.
