A FOUR-YEAR-OLD girl is suspected to have drowned in a Friendship, East Bank Demerara neighbourhood trench Thursday.
The lifeless body of Princess Isha Bollers, of 45 Gobind Dam, Friendship, was taken out of the water by a neighbour, sometime after she was missed about 18:00 h. She had accompanied her parents, Walton Andrew Bollers and Marva February, to visit their friends two houses away from where they live.
However, the child, who would have celebrated her fifth birthday on June 13, left the adults unknown to them and was headed home when she, reportedly, encountered difficulties navagitating a drain.
Bollers, 39, told the Guyana Chronicle that, while he and February were in conversation with the persons they visited, their second to last child slipped away from the group and was using a route, through a neighbouring yard, which she previously took numerous times.
But, apparently, because of the heavy rainfall and filled waterways, she might have fallen into the deep, he speculated.
It was a while before they realised she was missing and began a frantic search for her, joined by other residents, including Adrian James, 17, who saw the girl’s slippers floating, plunged into the water and took her out.
James said, when he handed her over to her parents, he suspected she was already dead, as her body was limp.
However, she was rushed to Diamond Diagnostic Centre, also on East Bank Demerara, where her death was confirmed on arrival.
Police are investigating the surrounding circumstances.
Bollers was inconsolable yesterday morning as he recalled the last time he saw his daughter alive, playful and running around, as usual.
She is survived by three siblings, a sister and two brothers.
