Exhibition, book launch to observe International Day for Monuments and Sites

AS  part of the activities to observe International Day of Monuments and Sites in Guyana, the National Trust, an arm of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport will be collaborating with the Guyana Sugar Corporation to promote Guyana’s Monuments and Sites on Friday (April 16).
An Exhibition and a book launch will be held at the Non Aligned Monument compound, Georgetown.

The Exhibition will be open to the public from 13:00 to 16:00 hrs and will be showcasing exhibits and historic information on GuySuCo Socio-Economic and Agricultural heritage, National Trust Guyana, the history behind International Monuments and Sites Day and other historical information on monuments and sites preserved across the country.
International Day for Monuments and Sites originated in 1982 after a suggestion was made during a symposium by the International Council on Monuments and Sites (ICOMOS) in Tunisia.
The suggestion was later approved by the United Nations Economic Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) where a resolution was passed in 1983 and was declared an International event.
