Gangoo to lead Berbice women’s team

THE Berbice Cricket Board (BCB) yesterday named West Berbice’s Natasha Gangoo as the skipper of their female team in the upcoming Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) Senior female Inter-county tournament which commences tomorrow. Gangoo would lead a depleted Berbice team which would be without the services of regular captain and West Indies middle order batter Shemaine Campbell and fellow West Indies player Tremayne Smartt.
The two players would be unavailable due to a camp for the West Indies female team leading up to the International Cricket Council Women’s Twenty20 tournament and it is quite surprising that the GCB would organise the only senior female tournament when the country’s only current West Indies players are unavailable.
Gangoo would have as her deputy, another West Indies player in fast bowler Erva Giddings, with the rest of the squad reading Katana Mentore, Steffi Rodney, Phaffiana Millington, Nirmala Sewdat, Shenella McBean, Melanie Henry, Jacquelin Singh, Sabrina Munroe, Tessa Park, Hermala Sewdat and Oneicha Tello.
There are three standby players in Ceylon Daniels, Sherry Ann Fraser and Sherika Campbell in the squad which will be managed by assistant secretary of the BCB Carol Nurse and coached by Winston Smith.
