I must commend the government for its interventions in developing the tourism industry of our country.
Guyana’s tourism industry has come a long way and is continually expanding to offer more to visitors, as government is working with private sector bodies and indigenous communities to develop more areas to attract tourists.
Just recently, as part of the Ministry of Tourism Easter Calendar of Events we’ve had Motor Racing, Pakaraima Mountain Safari, Bartica Regatta, Rupununi Wildlife Festival and Horse Racing, all deemed as successful events.
These activities saw tourists from different countries including Brazil, United States and the Caribbean.
Minister of Tourism, Manniram Prashad, must be commended for impressive efforts towards the growth and development of Guyana’s tourism sector.
Apart from these planned activities, Guyana, as every Guyanese, knows, has the potential to become a premiere tourist destination. Pristine rain forest, the highest single drop waterfall in the world, beautiful rivers, rich and exotic flora and fauna; a diverse ecotourism experience for those niche market of tourists.
Our country’s rich cultural heritage also provides tourists with an opportunity to indulge in the life-style of the Amerindians, the African culture and the art of Indian tradition.
Over the years, our country has seen an influx of tour groups and visitors exploring its bird avenues; an opportunity to see birds never seen before in history.
Guyana’s tourism sector continues to offer important opportunities for growth and expansion; hence I’m positive government will continue to improve the capacity and quality of the hospitality sector.
