Easter Message from the Alliance For Change

The Easter celebrations are once again with us and the Alliance For Change takes this opportunity to extend warm Easter greetings to all the citizens of our beloved land.  This national festival has traditionally been a delightful time when our fellow Guyanese celebrate in large numbers as we fly our kites and enjoy a day of fun with friends and family. It is a time when we meditate on the resurrection and ascension of Jesus Christ after He was falsely accused, tried and crucified on the cross- all for the sake of offering mankind salvation from sin. Easter then reminds our nation that despite our calamities and difficulties we can be victorious if we persevere and keep our faith in Almighty God. The great message of Easter is therefore hope – hope that makes us have that confidence in God that in His goodness and love we can triumph. The spiritual lessons offered in the resurrection of Jesus Christ give our lives meaning and direction and the opportunity to start over and live better lives; no matter what are our present difficulties and circumstances.

The Alliance For Change knows that much crime, poverty and other social ills prevail in our land and calls on every Guyanese to team with us for change and for a new beginning. Let us count ourselves as immortals who recognize that the spiritual is much higher than the material, that in the sight of Almighty God the spirit counts far more than the physical, and that in Easter Almighty God demonstrates that life is essentially spiritual and timeless. Before us lie work, discipline and sacrifice and the lesson of Easter gives us the spiritual power to do the work, accept the discipline, and make the sacrifice all so vitally needed for nation building.  We live in a land where very frequently there are startling revelations of corruption in high places, sometimes in the tune of millions. Soon thereafter we cease to hear of these matters and we can only conclude that they are swept under the carpet. However, let us be encouraged by the words of Clarence W. Hall who stated “If Easter says anything to us today, it is this: You can put truth in a grave, but it won’t stay there. You can nail it to a cross, wrap it in winding sheets and shut it up in a tomb, but it will rise”. May the resurrection joy lift us from loneliness, weakness, and despair to strength, beauty, and happiness. Let us not merely say “Christ is risen” but let us say “Guyana will rise”.
May Almighty God bless all Guyana!
